How to Apply for a Civic Home

The Waiting List is currently closed.

Our homes are predominantly within a 2 mile radius of the City Centre although we have some houses in the Weoley Castle/Northfield area.  Our property portfolio contains houses and flats.  The flats have one, two and three bedrooms, are converted houses and are not in “high rise” blocks.  Our properties meet the Government’s Decent Homes Standard and are maintained to a good standard, are well insulated, many are double glazed and have efficient central heating systems.

Civic along with other Housing Associations is a participant in the City Council’s Choice Based Lettings Scheme which enables housing applicants wherever they have registered to “bid” for a vacant property which they believe meets their needs.  This computer based scheme can be accessed at any Council building, including libraries or via the internet at www.birmingham.gov.uk.

When the Waiting List is open, you can apply for accommodation by either phoning the Association on 0121 382 5105 for an application form or alternatively downloading a form off this web site.

Applications are accepted from people over the age of 18 who have a housing need. We cannot help people who need “supported housing” as we do not have any property of a specialist type in management.

Tenants of other Housing Associations or Birmingham City Council are advised to speak to their existing Landlords before seeking to apply for a Civic property. When a completed form is received it will be assessed in accordance with our Allocations Policy and the applicant will be advised in writing within 7 days of whether we can help in their search for a home. Due to the low turnover of our properties, approximately 10% or 21 properties a year, you can expect to wait some time before being allocated. A regular review of the circumstances of every applicant on the Waiting List is carried out to ensure that details held are accurate.

Mutual Exchanges
We do consider property exchanges where tenants of other housing providers seek to swap their home with one occupied by a Civic tenant. In these circumstances we would suggest both tenants contact the Office on 0121 382 5105 to arrange a joint meeting to discuss the possibility of the exchange. Mutual exchanges will only be approved if all parties are in agreement and both Landlords are satisfied that they are going to have good tenants joining them.
